55th Reunion (2016)

Dear Classmates:

There are two reasons why Iowa in 2016 is the place to be.

First, there were the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses. We Iowans were in the national spotlight for months. The state was crisscrossed by candidates, supporters, staff, press and TV commentators, secret service, pollsters, and, probably, just some curious onlookers. On February 1st we made our choices and then all the visitors, attention, and phone calls disappeared. That’s OK with most of us.

However, in September, a second event will occur that also will attract important visitors from across the country. That event, of course, is the Mason City High School Class of 1961 Fifty-fifth Class Reunion. Unlike the caucuses, we hope that the memories recalled and the memories created on the weekend of September 16-17, 2016, will last for many years to come.

Once again, we will use the facilities of Music Man Square for our reunion. We will gather for registration, food and drinks (cash bar) on Friday, September 16th starting at 5:30 p.m. until closing at 10:30 p.m. The food will be arranged at 5 different “stations” and will include sliders, veggies, fruit, and mini cheese cake and brownie bites along with several items yet to be decided. The “stations” will be available from 6-8 p.m.

On Saturday, we will enjoy a two-meat buffet dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. The cash bar will again be available. Closing time will be 11 p.m. All food catering will be done by Butcher’s Steakhouse in Mason City. Plans are underway for a possible Sunday morning brunch at a local restaurant.

Steve Ludeman and Candy Corless Adams are again organizing a Hobby & Leisure Activities Display. Look over the information included with this mailing and think about what you might have to share with us.

We are not planning a formal program, as such. We believe that our conversations, chatter, and fellowship are program enough. Bring your camera or phone and we will find a way to share photos that night or later.

We hope your travel plans are in place. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you in September.

Reunion Planning Committee

About a month before our 50th reunion, Sue Frelund suggested that Norb Tatro write a story, and offer it to the Globe-Gazette, documenting how exceptional our class was. Time was running short to do such a story justice, so he didn’t.

Earlier this year, with the 55th reunion a short while away, Norb said that he has no excuse this year. With your help he was able to research the achievements of several members of our amazing class. Thanks Norb, and to all who contributed to this effort!
